Job Description
This is a rare opportunity to become part of a special team that cares for a wide variety of marine and island protected areas between Mackay and Gladstone. The job includes helping with small ship operations and maintenance, pest and fire management, maintaining infrastructure (walking tracks, small buildings, water supplies), presenting yourself and QPWS assets well to park users and others, together with getting wet while monitoring marine park reef and other habitats. You will also take a proactive role in promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of natural resource values to park users. The job also includes law enforcement duties and may occasionally assist with investigations.

To achieve the outcomes required by this role, you must be able to:

Assist with the safe operation and maintenance of small ships;

Carry out park management duties including small plant operation and maintenance, natural and cultural resource management, project development, fire management, weed and feral animal control and the development and maintenance of park infrastructure.

Assist with the monitoring of marine habitats;

Perform general public contact duties including answering enquiries and providing advice, park patrols and undertake liaison with various stakeholders as required.

Perform compliance and enforcement tasks including detection and investigation of suspected breaches of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Marine Parks Act 2004, and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 together with monitoring permit compliance. Assist senior staff and staff from other Agencies with investigations as required.

• Follow and assist in emergency response procedures including natural disaster contingency plans, wildfire response procedures, search and rescue procedures and medical emergency procedures.

• Assist with the supervision of students and volunteers and implement and monitor workplace health and safety and equal employment opportunity principles and practices.

• Undertake administrative duties such as compiling and maintaining maintenance records, developing fire and pest project plans and procurement of goods and services.
